Celebrate the holidays with these new Netflix releases!

This December, the streaming service is premiering Selena: The Series, which follows the singer’s childhood and rise to fame, as well as Bridgerton, which looks a lot like a scandalous Georgian Gossip Girl. Keep it Christmasy with The Holiday Movies That Made Us or The Great British Baking Show: Holidays: Season 3.

If you’d rather make it a movie night, try The Prom, a glittering Ryan Murphy musical that sees a group of actors (Meryl Streep, James Corden, and Nicole Kidman) setting out to give a small-town girl one unforgettable night; Mank, a black-and-white period piece led by Gary Oldman about the creation of Citizen Kane; or Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a 1920s drama that has Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman playing ambitious blues performers.

Check out everything coming to Netflix in December 2020 below.

Top Pick: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Based on the 1980s August Wilson play of the same name, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom catches up with its famous titular singer (Viola Davis) — the “Mother of the Blues” — and her horn player (Chadwick Boseman) during one monumental recording session in 1927 Chicago.

The dazzling trailer captivates with swingin’ music and striking period visuals — and with both Davis and Boseman offering up their all in the preview, we can’t wait to see how brightly they shine throughout the rest of the film. While critics are already raving about the pair’s powerful performances, they’ve also been impressed by the film’s moving homage to Ma Rainey and Black culture.

How to watch: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom begins streaming Dec. 18 on Netflix.
