Sure, there are a ton of new upgrades expected for Apple’s upcoming 2021 iMac, including the company’s new M1 chip and a completely revamped design. But here’s the news we actually care about: rumored color options. Yep, sorta like those classic iMacs from the late ’90s and early 2000s.

According to well-known Apple leaker Jon Prosser, the new desktop machines might be available in the same colors as the 2020 iPad Air: rose gold, green, and sky blue (in addition to the more “traditional” silver and space gray).

So, not as as eccentric as the blueberry, grape, lime,  and tangerine colors as seen on the iMac G3, but I’ll take it. Who knows — maybe this is just a hint of what’s to come for the future of colorful Apple products.

Prosser does mention that these new iMacs only exist as prototypes for now. It’s very likely they might not even make it to the production stage. He hasn’t seen the full back of the machine, either, but provided concept renders (with the help of 3D animation artist Concept Creator) of what it could potentially look like.

As for the front of the new iMac, Bloomberg reported last month that the new models will pull design inspiration from Apple’s very pricey Pro Display XDR by nixing the metal chin and reducing the bezels. Of course, it’s also expected to be powered by Apple’s Silicon under the hood.

In addition to the iMac, the video also shows a render of what could be the Mac Pro “mini.” According to Prosser’s source, it will include a “compute unit on the bottom and a heat sink on top.” He also points out that it’ll slightly resemble Apple’s old-school Power Mac G4 from the year 2000.

As for when we can expect to see either of these machines revealed, that remains unknown. There have been rumors claiming Apple will announce the redesigned iMac during its Worldwide Developer Conference in June — which makes sense, considering the company has unveiled big products during WWDC in years past.

Regardless of when these two Macs might launch, I hope Apple really is diving into the nostalgia factor for its upcoming products. In the meantime, I’ll just be over here crossing my fingers for a refresh of the clamshell iBook G3.
