The recent Warner Bros. and HBO Max announcement gave all of us weekend plans for the foreseeable future.

In light of the pandemic, we’ve seen a few big movies (like Mulan and Soul) forego theatrical releases and go straight to streaming. But Warner Bros. making its entire 2021 lineup available on HBO Max is unprecedented.

There’s only one thing left to do: Upgrade to a big, bad TV that’ll make those colors and dark scenes pop. With movies like Dune, The Suicide Squad, and Matrix 4 all being available to watch from your couch, it’s only right to have a theater-level TV on hand.

Here are the best TV deals this weekend from Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Samsung, and Dell. Choices are organized by brand, then size, then price:

Samsung

OUR TOP PICK: Samsung 82-inch 8 Series 4K UHD LED TV (UN82RU8000FXZA) — $1,199.99 (save $600)

We all have an idea of how expensive 80-something-inch TVs can get. This absolute steal at Best Buy gets you a 2020 82-inch Samsung TV for the regular price of a TV that’s 20 inches smaller. The 8 Series delivers over a billion colors as well as deep uniform blacks, and is good at barring distracting reflections. Its quick motion handling is seriously impressive, with a refresh rate that gamers should appreciate.

LG

OUR TOP PICK: LG 75-inch NanoCell 80 Series LED 4K TV (75NANO80UNA) — $999.99 (save $500)

Think of NanoCell technology as a slight step up from regular LCD or LED, but still more affordable than QLED. Particles are deployed in the screen structure to soak up rogue light wavelengths, boosting saturation and defining color purity. This leftover Black Friday deal scores you a 75-inch version of a TV slightly better than your average 4K LED TV for less than $1,000.

Sony

OUR TOP PICK: Sony 77-inch A9G Master Series OLED 4K Smart TV (XBR77A9G) — $3,299.99 (save $1,200)

We saw this same TV on sale for $1,000 off for a few weeks in the fall. Now, Best Buy has knocked an extra $200 off the price — officially making this 77-inch beast over half off. This OLED masterpiece is armed with what Sony calls its best processor ever and uses Acoustic Surface Audio+ sound (dual actuators and subwoofers) to bring concert hall-like sound to each scene.

Hisense, Vizio, and more:

OUR TOP PICK: Hisense 75-inch Quantum ULED 4K Smart TV (75H8G) — $1,299.99 (save $600)

2020 was the year of big, cheap TVs, but was also the year of the affordable quantum dot. Hisense, a known budget-friendly brand, took a stab at the color-boosting technology. This huge ULED TV perks up the details in each scene, including the typically indecipherable shadows in dark cinematography.
