Wordle today is yet another pretty easy one. WordleBot says people are solving this one in an average of 3.4 guesses, which makes it the easiest in more than a week.
It’ll be even easier if you picked one of the best Wordle starting words – some of them left just two or three answers remaining!
I’m a Wordle addict who’s been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Wordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Read on for my hints and clues to Wordle #596.
SPOILER WARNING: Information about Wordle today and Wordle yesterday are below, so don’t read on if you don’t want to know the answers.
Wordle today (game #596) – hint #1 – Vowels
How many vowels does today’s Wordle have?
• Wordle today has two vowels*. (Need another hint? Next I’ll tell you what the first letter is.)
Getting two vowels in a Wordle answer is a lot more likely than getting one; there are 1,336 Wordle solutions containing two vowels, but only 732 that have one.
* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).
Wordle today (game #596) – hint #2 – first letter
What letter does today’s Wordle begin with?
• The first letter in today’s Wordle answer is D. (Want a third hint? I’ll also tell you if there are any repeated letters.)
D is the ninth most common starting letter in the game, so maybe slightly less likely than you might expect.
We haven’t had one for ages before today’s Wordle: DRIVE, in late November (game #522) was the last occasion when an answer started with D.
Wordle today (game #596) – hint #3 – repeated letters
Does today’s Wordle have any repeated letters?
• There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle. (I’ve got one more hint if you need one below.)
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.
Wordle today (game #596) – hint #4 – final clue

Wordle today (game #596) – the answer
The answer to today’s Wordle, game #596, is… DANCE.
This is about as easy as Wordle gets. The NYT’s WordleBot tool says people are solving it in 3.4 guesses, and there’s really nothing to be scared about here at all.
It was particularly simple if you use one of the best Wordle starting words. And if you don’t, then you should. CRANE, WordleBot’s second-favorite word, left just two possible solutions. TRACE, CARTE, CRATE and CARET left three.
My own choice of CLEAR wasn’t quite so helpful, but it gave me a yellow A, E and C, and a mere 18 options to whittle down from there.
I figured that SPACE was a good second guess, because it gave me the –ACE ending that was common to SPACE, PEACE and APACE, while including two common letters in S and P.
WordleBot rated it at 98/99 for skill; it said that SPATE was supposedly a better choice, but given that doesn’t contain a C, it couldn’t have been the answer. I think SPACE was therefore a smarter pick.
It wasn’t right, but it gave me green C and E at the end and left me with just one possible solution: DANCE, which I quickly spotted and played for a 3/6.
The past week’s Wordle games have all been pretty easy, so I’m actually craving a tricky one tomorrow. Getting good scores is fun, but it’s nice to have a challenge sometimes.
Wordle yesterday (game #595) – hints
In a different time zone where it’s still Saturday? Don’t worry – I can give you some hints for Wordle #595 too.
- Wordle yesterday had two vowels.
- The first letter in yesterday’s Wordle answer was U.
- There were no repeated letters in yesterday’s Wordle.
- Yesterday’s Wordle is not illuminated.
Wordle yesterday (game #595) – the answer
The answer to yesterday’s Wordle, game #595, was… UNLIT.
If Friday’s game was a disaster for me (a 5/6!) then this Wordle wasn’t quite so bad. I managed to solve it in 4/6, a tiny bit above the global average of 3.9.
My luck score of 54 tells a particular story, though – this could have been a 3/6 if I’d been a little more fortunate.
My choice of starting word certainly didn’t help. I switched to STARE here, and got just a yellow T for my troubles. WordleBot said I had 119 possible solutions remaining, which is about 100 too many for comfort!
WordleBot’s favored SLATE was much more helpful; anyone playing that would have had a mere 16 solutions to whittle down. But SLANT, another of its top choices, would have left just 3.
My second guess was reasonably successful. I knew I wanted to include two more vowels, while C is the second most common starting letter after S, so it made sense to play that too. T is most common at the end of a word – it actually ranks third in this regard – so adding an L gave me CLOUT.
WordleBot liked this well enough, and rightly so: it turned up a yellow U and L, and confirmed a green T at the end.
I now had just four possible solutions left: BUILT, GUILT, UNLIT and QUILT. I didn’t know this at the time, of course, but I did spot that BUILT, GUILT and QUILT were all options. If I’d looked a little harder maybe I’d have found UNLIT too, but I’m pretty sure I’d have played BUILT anyway – B is the third most common starting letter, after all.
That wasn’t to be, but I could now see that UNLIT was my only option and duly scored a just-about-par 4.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website (opens in new tab) or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS (opens in new tab) / Android (opens in new tab)), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
