When is Labor Day 2023

Labor Day is a federal holiday that always takes place on the first Monday in September to celebrate the contributions and achievements of American workers.

This year, Labor Day lands on Monday, September 4th, with the long holiday weekend kicking off on Friday, September 1st. Most Labor Day sales will kick off the week before on Monday, August 28.

When do Labor Day sales start?

While Labor Day officially lands on September 4th, most retailers have already launched early Labor Day sales. Mattress brands were the first to kick off official sales, with brands like Purple, Nectar, and Casper launching sitewide savings earlier this month.

Amazon, Home Depot, HP, and Lowe’s launched Labor Day deals last week, and the Walmart Labor Day sale just kicked off its official sale yesterday.

While the Best Buy Labor Day appliance sale is live, we’re still waiting for the broader sale, and we predict that it will drop this Friday to kick off the holiday weekend event. We’re also waiting on Dell, Target, and Wayfair to drop Labor Day sales, and we predict we’ll see all three launch promotions before the weekend.

Do Labor Day sales go past Labor Day?

Most holiday sales outside Amazon Prime Day extend their sales past the actual holiday, and we expect that will happen with Labor Day – depending on the category. If you’re shopping for appliances, mattresses, and furniture, most Labor Day sales will go past Labor Day, with deals extended for the following week. If you’ve spotted a record-low price on a TV, laptop, or Apple device, we recommend snagging up the offer on Labor Day, as most offers will expire.

You can also see if the retailer has specified that the sale will end at Midnight on Labor Day. The Best Buy Labor Day appliance sale doesn’t end till September 13, per the website, and the Lowe’s Labor Day appliance sale expires on September 13 as well.

Does Labor Day have sales?

If you’re wondering if Labor Day has sales, we’re here to happily tell you that it’s one of the biggest holiday sales ahead of the Black Friday deals event.

Labor Day coincides with the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year, so it’s a great time for retailers to offer clearance prices on outdoor items like grills and patio furniture, as well as deals on back-to-school must-haves like clothing, supplies, and tech items including laptops, tablets, headphones, and TVs.

Like other holiday events, Labor Day sales also offer record-low prices on big-ticket items like mattresses from popular online brands like Purple and DreamCloud and major appliances from Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowe’s.
