Looking for all of the new Prime Video movies that’ll arrive in July? You’ve come to the right place. Below, we’ve rounded up a full list of the new movies that you can stream right now, as well as those that’ll be released in the weeks ahead, on Amazon‘s primary streaming platform.

There are plenty of highly anticipated Prime Video Originals and fantastic licensed films to stream this month, too, including the Dave Bautista-starring My Spy: The Eternal City, 2000’s Gladiator, and a host of Rocky flicks. Indeed, I’ve picked out four films (well, technically eight, but five are in same movie franchise) that I consider to be must-see in our July spotlights section, which precedes the complete list of new Prime Video movies for this month. So, what are you waiting for? Read on to find out about every new movie that’ll debut on one of the best streaming services between now and July 31.

New Prime Video movies: my top picks for July

Gladiator

Release date: July 1
RT score: 80% (critics); 87% (audience)

Historical drama epics don’t come much more epic than Gladiator. Ridley Scott’s brutal tale of a Roman general-turned-gladiator scooped five Oscars at the 2001 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for its star Russell Crowe. Once you’ve sat through the journey that is its 155-minute runtime – believe me, it absolutely flies by – it’ll be easy to see why.

We placed Gladiator at a more-than-respectable number four in our ranking of the best Ridley Scott movies (that’s fourth out of a possible 27, by the way), and quite frankly, it’s necessary viewing for any serious cinema lover. Altogether now: are you not entertained?!

No Country For Old Men

Release date: June 1
RT score: 93% (critics); 86% (audience)

This Coen Brothers-directed neo-western crime drama, which put Javier Bardem on the Hollywood map, is as gripping and hyperviolent today as it was upon its initial 2007 release. Based on Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 novel of the same name, it sees Tommy Lee Jones star as Ed Tom Bell, a sheriff investigating involving Vietnam veteran Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), who stumbles upon a large sum of money in the desert, and hitman Anton Chigurh (Bardem), who’s sent to retrieve said cash.

Widely considered to be the Coens’ best feature film, and easily one of the best movies of 2007, No Country For Old Men is a genuinely thrilling, compelling, and occasionally horror-fuelled adaptation that’ll stand the test of time. Stick it on your new Prime Video movies list ASAP.

Rocky 1 to 5

Release date: July 1
RT score: 33% to 92% (critics); 31% to 82% (audience)

Few sports drama film franchises have been as influential as Rocky, in my view. The boxing movies, which turned Sylvester Stallone into an overnight star, are unrivalled in their exploration of class divide, underdog spirit, and iconic music (who here hasn’t worked out to ‘Eye of the Tiger’ or the Rocky theme tune?).

In the first film, Stallone plays rookie boxer Rocky Balboa, who’s given a once-in-a-life-time shot at becoming the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world by beating Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Simple though its premise might be, there’s a lot more working under the hood in Rocky than meets the eye. An emotionally and thematically deep flick, it’s little wonder it managed to stun the world (typical of a Rocky film, eh?) to scoop Best Picture at the 1977 Oscars.

It was followed up by five sequels of varying quality (I’d recommend skipping everything after Rocky III), but only the first four are available on Prime Video. Read our guide on how to watch the Rocky movies in order to learn more.

Taxi Driver

Release date: July 1
RT score: 89% (critics); 93% (audience)

One of the best movies period, Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver follows marine-turned-cab driver Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) as he grows disgusted by the crime and urban decay of ’70s New York City. In an effort to clean up the streets, he embarks on a mission to save underage prostitute (Jodie Foster) from her pimp (Harvey Keitel).

Considered by many to be Scorsese’s greatest achievement (see where it ranks in our best Martin Scorsese movies list), shades of Taxi Driver are evident in some of the biggest movies of recent years. The likes of Fight Club, Joker, and The Machinist all owe a debt of gratitude to Taxi Driver‘s grimy portrayal of inner-city America, and first-time viewers will be bowled over by its music, visual style, and that mirror scene. I will say, however, that’s not for everyone. Indeed, its explosive amount of ultraviolence and other adult material is still shocking to this day, and definitely won’t appeal to film fans who don’t like R-rated films. Bear that in mind before you load it up.
