For more reaction to the State of Play, I’ve asked my colleague Dash what he thought. He’s been covering the show with me, and here’s what he’s looking forward to out of that bunch.

“As a big FPS fan, the real highlights for me were definitely Borderlands 4 and Metal Eden – which both look like an awful lot of fast-paced fun.

It was a big night for soulslike fans, too, even if I’m not the biggest lover of the genre myself. Tides of Annihilation just looks extremely cool, with a seriously gorgeous art direction that might just be enough to tempt me to play.

Of course, more Stellar Blade DLC is always going to be appreciated, especially when it’s a crossover with such an… ahem interesting mobile game.”

We’ll soon be wrapping up our coverage and letting the dust settle, but we’ll leave this page as a helpful resource.

Hmm, how would we rate that State of Play, all in?

I think it was alright – not spectacular, and not really underwhelming.

I’m excited for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in particular, and I’ll probably play Days Gone Remastered, too (don’t @ me). Split Fiction looks excellent, too.

Days Gone Remastered!

A long-running rumor is true!

Coming April 25, the Days Gone Remaster is coming to PS5 with a host of new features and you can pay just $10 to upgrade if you own the PS4 version of Days Gone.

Next, we just saw a new trailer for Hell is Us, a cool looking post-apocalyptic soulslike that looks like it’s going to be absolutely dripping in atmosphere.

We also now know that it’s going to launch on September 4, 2025.

That trailer leak recently was true! Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater gets a new trailer showing off way more action – from stuff deeper into the game – and confirms that release date of August 28. Woo!

Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets new trailer

This looks slick and action-packed! Looks like a similar style to Kunitsu-Gami as well…

It comes out in 2026.

Next is Warriors: Abyss and that’s available today!

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is next and comes out on May 23, just on PS4

Next is a game that looks like a take on Inside or LIMBO but you play as an octopus… Darwin’s Paradox it’s called.

Hazelight Studios’ new co-op splitscreen game Split Fiction is up now, and it looks wonderful!

Yup, this sure looks like Borderlands! It’s a bombastic trailer full of ridiculous gunplay, cool traversal, and some very cool-looking effects.

Randy Pitchford confirms there’s going to be a Borderlands 4 State of Play too!

We then saw a flash of Splitgate 2 (it’s Alpha begins on February 27) and now we’re on to another look at WWE 2K25.

Lost Soul Aside new gameplay trailer appears

Dash’s post earlier talking about the likelihood of Lost Soul Aside popping up was also true.

This is an action RPG of the same kind of ilk as Devil May Cry being made by Utilizero Games, but it’s also a SIE game.

And it’s coming May 30 to PS5 and PC!

New Digimon game revealed!

Those rumors were also true! Digimon Story Time Stranger is coming in 2025 to PS5.

Now it’s something from Bandai Namco…

New Sonic racing game confirmed!

Looks like the rumors that where flying around of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds getting announced were true!

This looks like a 2D action game, with a hand drawn aesthetic…and it’s called Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Nice, looks kind of cool.

Hello, I have returned! Rob, Managing Editor of TechRadar Gaming here, back from my delicious burger dinner (a mac and cheese burger, thanks for asking) to take you right through – with Dash’s help – to the end of the State of Play presentation.

And we’re only about 13 minutes away from the start – get that popcorn and beverage in hand right now!

Many PlayStation fans have flocked to X / Twitter to share some last minute predictions ahead of the stream.

More than any other game, I’ve seen loads of users on my timeline crying out for any kind of update on the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 4.

That potential new Digimon game that I mentioned earlier has also turned some heads…

And, of course, plenty of people have been taking the chance to crack jokes about everything from a dreaded second Horizon Zero Dawn remake to the slim chance of a new Sly Cooper game. Very funny guys.

Time check!

There are just under thirty minutes to go until all that delicious State of Play goodness starts to pour right into our eager eyeballs! If you have any chores that you want to get out of the way before the live stream begins, then now is the time to do them but make sure that you’re quick about it.

This last half hour is also a good opportunity to stock up on snacks and drinks that you might want during the stream. Remember, it’s over 40 minutes long and you probably don’t want to spend that time hungry. Me? I’m nibbling on some Pringles Extra Hot in the Smokin’ BBQ Ribs flavor – a pretty formidable gaming snack that I picked up earlier today in anticipation of the event.

If you head over to the PlayStation YouTube channel (or use the handy embedded video above) you can tune in to the broadcast ahead of time to make sure that you don’t miss it. There’s nothing happening on screen quite yet, but YouTube does provide a handy countdown and even the option to receive a browser notification when it begins.

The stream also has a chat room though, as a general rule of thumb, I would avoid paying too much attention to it. Dipping in there for a moment, I could see that lots of fans have been voicing their desires for more info on Grand Theft Auto 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, and even a potential Days Gone remake or remaster.

Prediction: PS portal cloud streaming rolls out in full

Sony recently offered PS Portal owners the chance to participate in a beta for cloud streaming on the remote play handheld. It allows you to stream PS5 games via the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog, which massively increases the utility of the peripheral and goes a long way to address its reliance on the PS5 system, which has definitely been a turn off for some.

It works well but is still only in beta and requires you to enable a special setting in order to access it. Tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony begins to roll out that functionality to all users after a run down of the feature in the State of Play. The PS Portal has been selling like hotcakes, so I expect it to be at something of a focus for the company going forward.

Prediction: Clash of the heist shooters?

There are two big co-op heist shooters on the horizon: Den of Wolves and Sony’s Fairgame$. Although the former hasn’t yet been confirmed for PS5, I’m willing to bet that at least one, and potentially even both, of these two games will show up tonight.

Fairgame$ was first revealed back in May 2023, so the time feels right for another trailer – hopefully with our first substantial look at gameplay. Could the title be releasing this year? I don’t think it’s likely given Sony’s apparent hesitancy around live-service games as of late, but I do think some news is needed soon to keep us all from forgetting about it.

As for Den of Wolves, developer 10 Chambers has confirmed that PC early access is on the way at some point in the future. I think that it might even be this year and, if that is indeed the case, then now would be a good time to reveal a console version.

Expect a new trailer for Lost Soul Aside

Lost Soul Aside is one Sony published game that might have flown under your radar up to this point. This stylish action-adventure game from Chinese developer Ultizero Games looks like a pretty good time and is set to come to PS5, PS4, and PC.

Everything I’ve seen so far suggests that it has some impressive graphics and slick melee combat system that looks almost like a soulslike take on something like Devil May Cry.

Yesterday the developer posted a cryptic teaser to X / Twitter just an hour after the news of the upcoming State of Play dropped. “The answer is yes”, they said – presumably in reply to the imagined question ‘will Lost Soul Aside be in the State of Play?’

We’ll have to wait and see but, as a Sony published title, I would be shocked if it’s not at least mentioned.

A new Digimon game may have leaked

Eagle-eyed gamers on social media spotted some now-deleted GameStop listings for what seems to be a new Digimon game titled Digimon Story: Time Stranger.

There were listings for both PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, so it’s possible that it will be officially unveiled tonight. Given the timing of the appearance of these listings, I would say that it’s very likely!

Although I’m far from the biggest Digimon fan, I know that the Pokemon-like series has a very, very loyal following that will now be watching the State of Play closely for further news…

Prediction: The recent outage isn’t mentioned

One thing I wouldn’t expect to be discussed today is this past weekend’s PlayStation Network Outage. The company has already apologized for the interruption, which lasted about 24 hours, and is providing PS Plus subscribers with an extra five days of their memberships.

If anything, the attention will turn to what’s next in terms of content, and that’s all about games and potentially some hardware enhancements for the existing console line-up.

The timing, though, is certainly unique for this State of Play.

Hope: Some decent PSVR 2 news!

While we’re not expecting console news, there is the chance PlayStation speaks to more titles for the PSVR 2. The tease for State of Play doesn’t specifically mention the accessory, well, VR headset for the PS5 consoles; it only says announcements and updates for “great games coming to PS5.”

Still, it would be nice to see some additions in terms of titles and compatibility with the headset, though. It has a long list currently, and TechRadar’s own ranking puts Gran Turismo 7 at the very top of it, but it’s clear that Sony is still invested in the PSVR 2. Especially in it as a platform of sorts for both its own PS5 consoles as well as PCs at large.

Hope: More DLC is announced for Astro Bot

I’m equally as eager to see if we get console covers for the PS5 Pro as Rob is, but I’m also hoping Sony sheds some light on potential future expansions for Astro Bot during today’s live stream. Whether it’s paid DLC or a free set, it would be great to see what other directions the title goes in.

The first expansion – Building Speed– was free and landed in October as a speed running level. It also got four follow-ups, and now, a few months after that, it seems like the time is ripe. Just like Astro’s Playroom, Astro Bot has become somewhat of a fan favorite and equally engaging.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed, PlayStation speaks to this during the State of Play.

Hope: PS5 Pro console covers get revealed

One of my personal hopes is that PS5 Pro console covers are revealed.

Console covers, or face plates if you prefer, are an established accessory in the PS5 family now so there’s no mystery to them that Sony needs to cling to. And with so many other accessories coming in different colorways – that a lot of PS5 Pro owners will own, I’d wager – tonight’s State of Play feels like a fitting time for a flashy video confirming them, and hopefully revealing that they can be purchased soon. Three months after the console’s release seems like a decent enough time to have to ‘wait’ as well.

Prediction: PS5 gets a date with Indy

On the theme of Team Green games crossing the divide, there is one that we definitely know is coming but haven’t got a release date for yet: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

The PS5 release of this game was confirmed for ‘Spring 2025’ at the end of last year, but I reckon today’s State of Play is the perfect time for developer MachineGames to confirm the release date of the game on PS5, and show off some details about the bespoke features it’ll get from the console such as anything to do with the DualSense controller, or even PS5 Pro enhancements.

Given ‘Spring 2025’ – and we have to assume that it’s northern hemisphere spring – is right around the corner, just days away really if March is the first month of the season, then now is the perfect time to show Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5 and confirm a release date.

PlayStation State of Play start time reminder!

With a little over four hours to go until the February State of Play starts, it’s worth a reminder as to when it kicks off and where you can watch it.

Today’s State of Play start time is 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT / 11pm CET and will be broadcast on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels which we’ve linked to here.

We’ve got high hopes for this presentation so make sure you get in position early and strap in.

As an extension of what Dash has said there, personally, I’d love a trailer announcing that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 coming to PS5.

It’s a game that I earmarked replaying immediately when rumors first started swirling about Xbox games coming to PS5 and I can’t wait to jump back in.

It looks and sounds fantastic, is hard-hitting, deeply interesting and impactful, and there’s a certain seductiveness to the bleakness of the Hellblade series that I’m a big fan of. Plus, it’s a compact game, and I reckon it’d look even more spectacular on my PS5 Pro too.

Prediction: Some trailers for Xbox games on PlayStation

My colleague Dash has got some thoughts on a potentially seismic inclusion into a Sony State of Play show: trailers for Xbox games coming to PlayStation.

“It looks like Microsoft is fully embracing its new multi-platform strategy. We recently learned that Forza Horizon 5 is coming to PS5 this year and I expect a trailer for it to show up tonight. I also wouldn’t be shocked if more trailers for Xbox games are on the menu too, maybe one confirming a future port of upcoming games Avowed or South of Midnight.

We could also see some older games revealed for PS5, like the long-rumored Halo: The Master Chief Collection port or an updated collection of Gears of War games.”

Massive longshot hope: An update on more 30th Anniversary stock

Returning to hardware – and it’s a huge longshot, I know – but what a banger of a move it would be for Sony to reveal that actually, yes, it was holding big restocks of the excellent 30th Anniversary Collection and it’s going to be dropping imminently. What a time to be alive that would be.

As I say, it’s a massive longshot, but Sony would be on the verge of foolish if it ignored how popular the hardware was and is, so any more stock would be very well received – and sell like hot cakes.

Sony has seemingly going back on its original word that the retro PS5 themes would be temporary, so why not take a similar approach and confirm the existence and release more of those sweet, sweet retro-gray units…

Returning to Monster Hunter Wilds for just a moment – while I think of it – don’t forget to check out our hands-on preview of the game in which Rhys says the game has made “monster hunting more thrilling and engaging than ever before”.

Big Hope: Now or never for Bloodborne?

It wouldn’t be a Stae of Play without Bloodborne hype and hope. My colleague, Rhys Wood, has some thoughts on that in the context of tonight’s presentation

“Today’s State of Play showcase lines up suspiciously close to Bloodborne‘s 10th anniversary, which will be March 24, 2025, in the US. As a result, fans of the FromSoftware RPG (myself included) have been howling Vicar Amelia style for even just a crumb of acknowledgment.

Obviously, the big win here would be a PS5 remaster or even a potential PC port of Bloodborne. The original game is playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility, but it remains stuck at a choppy 30 frames per second – hardly a reasonable fate for what many consider to be one of the greatest PlayStation games of all time. Should the State of Play come and go without any kind of Bloodborne announcement, it’s hard to say if or when the game will get its next big chance. Hopefully, Sony is able to wake us from this accursed dream for good.”

Hope: A Ghost of Yotei trailer or even release date

This is a long shot but I would love it if Sony included a Ghost of Yotei release date bombshell in the State of Play later. It’s a flagship game from a flagship studio, and it’s got to be one of the most anticipated upcoming PS5 exclusives now.

I can’t wait to get my teeth into it, whenever it comes out, but I’ll be hoping for a release date – heck, even another trailer or a snippet of game play will do – to tide me over.

What about Marathon, or a something else from Bungie?

There’s growing hope that we might see something from Bungie during this State of Play too. Marathon was revealed a while ago and we’ve heard nothing in the meantime so this could be a good time to update fans on how development of that is going as Bungie tries to replicate the live service success of Destiny 2.

Prediction: A look at Pirating in Hawaii

Oh! And speaking of yet another upcoming release we might get another look at or promotion for; Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii comes out next week on PS5 and PS4 so that would also be a prime candidate for a show-off in the State of Play today!

Might we get a final look at AC Shadows before release?

Returning to upcoming game Sony might want to give a final push for, Assassin’s Creed Shadows could be a good candidate for a final trailer or promo before its release on March 20.

The latest in Ubisoft’s behemoth stealth action series, Shadows has certainly got fans intrigued and talking; I personally came away from my hands-on preview in Quebec optimistic about the game and eager to try get stuck into the Feudal Japan setting and the story of Naoe and Yasuke.

Prediction: What about hardware?

I really don’t think we’ll see new hardware announced, but it wouldn’t be out of the question to see new PS5 Slim bundles announced – and a recent leak did suggest that an Astro Bot PS5 Slim bundle was on its way soon…

This would be both a welcome bundle and one that makes sense. It’d be welcome as it would provide an excellent starting point for those looking to dive into PS5 for the first time, team the console and brilliant DualSense controller with a game that truly makes the most of both, and to the latter, it’d also make sense for Sony to build a bundle around what’s largely regarded as its new poster boy.

I reckon this could well be a hardware addition to the State of Play.

On the topic of upcoming releases and safe best, we’ve also got Tomb Raider IV–VI Remastered releasing this week (February 14) too which Sony may well want to highlight one last time.

Lara Croft is a PlayStation icon, after all, so celebrating this remastered trilogy with a last trailer before launch is not a bad guess.

It’d be very safe, but that might well account for a couple of minutes later today…

Prediction: a last look at Monster Hunter Wilds before release

We can also look to confirmed upcoming releases for some clue as to what might be shown in the State of Play later.

I’m specifically looking at Monster Hunter Wilds which releases just around the corner on February 28. We’ve seen a fair bit of the game recently given its Beta sessions and the hands-on previews that were published this week, but I reckon we could see one last hype-y trailer for the game on PS5 during today’s State of Play.

Prediction: More Death Stranding 2: On the Beach news?

To continue the playing it safe approach, this also seems like a solid bet. Hideo Kojima’s next game has been a feature at previous State of Play presentations and it feels like we’re gathering pace toward a release window given the time that has passed since a last update, and the fact that Kojima looks to have confirmed more Death Stranding 2 details will be revealed at a SXSW 2025 panel next month.

Therefore could we see a new trailer or a gameplay reveal in tonight’s State of Play? I’d say it’s not a bad prediction at all, though I’m not sure about a release date reveal just yet for some reason.

This one feels like a safe bet. It’s been a while in the works, and it even maintained a 2024 release date officially for a long while.

However, that aside, the recent apparent leak of a new Metal Gear Solid 3 remake trailer which confirmed an August 2025 release date seems like made for a State of Play presentation. We reported on the apparent leak of that trailer and release date recently, so it feels like the safe money is on this appearing in today’s show.

For PlayStation fans of a certain age, myself included, this is a remake to get really excited about; a new version of one of the best games ever made? This is one not to be missed.

So, the big question: what do we think we’ll actually see tonight?

Sony is promising more than 40 minutes of a show that will “celebrate a creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world”, which is nice and vague.

We’re going to start sharing some info on what we can probably expect – absolute certainty isn’t a thing, but some things are easier to predict right now, of course – as well as thoughts on what we really want Sony to show off…

What about the potential importance of a February PlayStation State of Play show? Is it usually in Sony’s schedule?

Well, simply put, yes – though the company has mixed it up occasionally with what it shows. Looking back over the past few years, there’s regularly been a State of Play presentation in February or March time – but of varying length and focus.

For example, last February we had a Final Fantasy VII Rebirth State of Play in early February dedicated to that one game, but that followed a late January State of Play which showed off loads of games. In 2023, we had a ‘normal’ State of Play show too.
