Another streaming service has arrived, and this time it’s for audiences who are searching for the kind of curated content that doesn’t usually show up on mainstream platforms.

Created by independent film festival organizer HF Productions, FILMPIXS, which launched globally on Feb. 17, aims to push acclaimed shorts and international docs into the spotlight. Many of these selections highlight rising voices in the movie industry and have narratives that push for social change. If this sounds up your alley, read on to learn more.

What can I watch on FILMPIXS?

FILMPIXS’ lineup includes content from film festivals like Cannes, Toronto, Venice, and Sundance, as well as award-winning international shorts.

Highlights include DCERA (Daughter), a Czech Academy Award-nominated short that follows a woman trying to reconnect with her estranged father; El escritor de un país sin librerías (The Writer from a Country Without Bookstores), a Goya Award-nominated documentary that follows a man from Equatorial Guinea who goes on a hunger strike to protest against the dictatorship; Figurant, a 2020 SXSW Official Selection about a man thrust into a group of industrial day workers; and Acid Rain, a 2019 Sundance animation about a runaway teen’s journey to self-discovery.

How much does it cost?

FILMPIXS is available ad-free for $5.99 a month. Or viewers can pay $49.99 for a year upfront, which gives them a savings of $22 if they plan on being subscribed for 12 months.

Would you rather try it out first? FILMPIXS offers a 7-day free trial. Signing up requires your credit card, so make sure you cancel your subscription before renewal to avoid getting charged.

What’s the interface like?

FILMPIXS offers featured selections at the top of the app and website. You can also browse through categories like New Releases, Weekly Recommended, Cannes & Oscar Films, Shorts, Documentaries, Comedy, Drama, Children & Family, French Animation, Thought-Provoking, Experimental, and more. Though FILMPIXS doesn’t save your progress, you can easily search for content and save your favorites.
