With not one, not two, but five new models released since April, 2020 has been a huge year for the iPhone — a fact reflected in this year’s Black Friday sales.
If you wanted a bargain on one of Apple’s iconic smartphones this same time last year, the best you could do was up to $500 off. But this year, you can get some of the latest models for free in the form of credits applied to your monthly service bills — a savings of over a thousand dollars, in some cases.

From what we’ve seen so far, you’ll save the most money by going directly to your cellular carrier — retailers like Walmart and Best Buy are running some just-OK deals, but Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile easily one-up them with their own stellar offers for trade-ins and/or new line activations. Also, note that unlocked iPhones are few and far between — we couldn’t find any on sale aside from the iPhone 8, which came out all the way back in 2017.

T-Mobile clinches Black Friday 2020’s top iPhone deal with the offer of a free iPhone 12 when you activate a new line (or upgrade an existing one) and trade in a qualifying older model. (You’ll have to purchase the device on a monthly payment plan, and then T-Mobile will reimburse you with credits.)
If you’re a Verizon customer, you can buy one iPhone 12 and get a second one for up to $800 off with a new line, monthly payments, and select Unlimited plans. (You can also trade in your current phone there to save up to $440.) AT&T, meanwhile, is giving shoppers up to $700 off the iPhone 12 with a new line, an unlimited plan, and an eligible trade-in.

Head to AT&T for the best deal on last year’s DSLR-rivaling iPhone: The carrier will give you up to $700 off the iPhone 11 Pro Max (in the form of credits over the course of 30 months) with a new line, the activation of an unlimited plan, and an eligible trade-in. You’ll wind up paying around $400 for the base model, which normally retails for $1,099.
Over at Verizon, you can buy one iPhone 11 Pro Max and save up to $1,000 on a second one with a new line, monthly payments, and an eligible Unlimited plan. (You can also opt to trade in your current phone or activate a new line for up to $350 to put towards a new device.) T-Mobile is running a similar deal where you can save $1,000 when you join with at least two lines and buy two iPhone 11 Pro Maxes.

The former requires a new line and a Select Unlimited plan, while AT&T’s offer involves an unlimited plan and an eligible trade-in.
