Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse did a lot of things right, and one of them was its music. That movie had a really good original soundtrack, and its obvious standout is Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower.” Releasing a few months before the film came out helped a lot, and it’s one of those songs that’s perfect for whatever mood you’re in. Turns out, a lot of people have listened to that song in the last five years and change, so much that the song’s achieved double-diamond status.

As revealed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the single has gone 20x Platinum (aka, been streamed over 20 million times) in the United States. And like how the first Spider-Verse had some “firsts” attached to its name, the same is true of “Sunflower” in that it’s the first single to ever hit that benchmark. Barely trailing behind it are the equally delightful “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which are respectively at 18x and 17x Platinum.

Post Malone, Swae Lee – Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)

“Post Malone and Swae Lee have officially raised the bar on what creative partnerships and infectious collaborations have the power to accomplish,” wrote RIAA chairman Mitch Glazier. “Congratulations Post, Swae Lee and Mercury/Republic Records for making history with the very first 2x Diamond single!”

At the start of 2024, Malone was recognized for having the most RIAA Diamond-certified singles ever. Before this newest distinction, eight of his singles have hit Diamond status, which includes “White Iverson,” “Better Now,” and “Circles.” And he’ll open tomorrow’s Super Bowl LVIII with a rendition of “America the Beautiful,” so it’s been an eventful year for him so far.

Congrats to “Sunflower,” you are too much of an earworm to get out of our heads.
