In the realm of home entertainment, one of the longest-running burning questions has always been “When is James Cameron going to release all his movies in 4K?” For years, there hasn’t been an answer—but finally, it’s here.

On March 12, 2024, Aliens, True Lies, and The Abyss are all finally coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the first time in brand new collector’s editions. That’ll be proceeded by all three of those, as well as new collector’s editions of Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, coming to 4K digital download December 12, as well as the previously announced 4K and digital 25th anniversary collectors editions of Titanic on December 5. The new Avatar discs will all be out December 19. “We really wanted to deliver the best possible experience at home so viewers could immerse themselves both in the films and the journeys we went through to make them,” Cameron’s long-time producer, Jon Landau, said of the releases.

With the exception of Aliens, every release will have never-before-seen behind-the-scenes content as well. For example, The Abyss comes with an extended conversation with Cameron about the film as well as a documentary on its legacy. True Lies has a new documentary called Fear Is Not an Option, and Avatar: The Way of Water has over eight hours of material. “There’s a world of emotions in revisiting these films and I hope we’ve captured some of that in the new bonus materials we created for our fans,” Cameron said in a press release.

This, of course, also comes on the heels of Cameron announcing that The Abyss would be getting a one-night-only screening at select theaters on December 6. You can read more info on that here.

Cameron’s next film, Avatar 3, will be released in December 2025. Which he now has plenty of time to work on since he no longer has to answer questions about The Abyss, True Lies, and Aliens coming to 4K.
