The ship has now sailed on season two of Our Flag Means Death, and we’ve just stopped sobbing long enough to check our email and find a missive from Max with the subject line “What to watch after Our Flag Means Death.”

Clearly, the streamer would love for you to stick around after watching the hit series—but what could possibly have the same vibes as the uniquely calibrated pirate comedy/queer romance, a show unlike virtually any other we’ve seen on the small screen? Well, here’s what Max suggests to subscribers.

Under the heading “Chart your next adventure,” Max suggests a pair of Max Originals—Mindy Kaling’s adult animated Scooby-Doo riff Velma, which (very unlike Our Flag Means Death) was showered with unfavorable reviews, and the Alia Shawkat-starring dark comedy Search Party—as well as Bryan Fuller’s cult-beloved 2007-2009 ABC series starring Lee Pace, Pushing Daisies.

Under “Hidden treasures,” it suggests the same three as above but adds on the comedy Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens.

Then, there’s a link to Max’s entire “Comedy” category (a broad cross-section that includes Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, South Park, and Friends), followed by “Couples we ship,” encompassing sitcoms Bob Hearts Abishola and Call Me Kat, and Michaela Coel’s British import Chewing Gum.

Not a pirate among them, and these suggestions feel very algorithm-curated, which is the opposite of the spirit behind the wonderfully original Our Flag Means Death. Pushing Daisies and Chewing Gum are great, though. What do you think of Max’s post-Our Flag suggestions… and what are you watching instead?
