Today’s Wordle answer (game #1094) is… PRIOR.
The slightly easier run in Wordle of late continues here, with a game that WordleBot says people are solving in an average of 3.8 guesses. That’s slightly up on the 3.5 for yesterday’s GRIND, and well up on the 3.3 for Saturday’s PROUD, which makes sense given that unlike those two games, this contains a repeated letter.
The fact that the score is still well below 4.0 reflects the fact that the repeated letter in question is R, one of the most common letters in the game. It’s not the most common to be repeated, but with 60 instances in that respect, it’s still high up the list. What’s more, the places where it appears here – position #2 and #5 – are the two where it is most likely to appear.
All of the letters, P aside, are relatively likely to appear within a start word, which will have kept down the average a little too. None made major inroads – the best of the top 20 was PARSE, which left 15, while TASER and SANER left 17. But among the truly popular openers, AUDIO was the best with 40 options.
I had a very good start with today’s random word PIECE. The combination of a green P and yellow I immediately cut my possibles list to 21, so not far off the best choices here. Unfortunately, I didn’t make the most of it, and had to settle for a four.
The mistake came on my second guess. I played PRINT, which WordleBot said “wasn’t my favorite” and which still left seven options. What was wrong with it? Well, ultimately it was a case of it not narrowing down the remaining words well enough. As I realized afterwards, there were still seven PRI words open to me, and PRINT would have done nothing to rule any of them out. What I should have done was left out the P, given that I already knew where it went, and instead played something like ARSON, SALON or MASON, all of which WordleBot revealed would have left only a single solution.
I didn’t even correct my mistake fully on the third guess, playing FOYER in order to help me choose between PRIMP, PRIOR and PRIVY, but missing the fact that PRIMO, PRISM, PRIMA and PRISS were all options too.
Fortunately, that didn’t come back to bite me. FOYER gave me the yellow O and green R at the end that meant the answer had to be PRIOR, so I escaped with another barely deserved 4/6.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #1093)
In a different time zone where it’s still Sunday? Don’t worry – I can give you some clues for Wordle #1093, too.
- Wordle yesterday had a vowel in one place.

G is the eighth most common starting letter, featuring in 115 Wordle answers. It’s often paired with an L to make GL—, but I’m not revealing whether that’s the case today.

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #1093) was… GRIND.
Another easy Wordle following yesterday’s PROUD (see below). And a fairly similar word to that one, too, with a middling letter at the start that’s far more common in that position than it is elsewhere, an R next and a D at the end.
WordleBot says it has an average score of 3.5, which makes it the second easiest in the past month or so, after yesterday’s. It’s not a game I’d expect many people to struggle with.
It took me four guesses, however, with my random start word of OWNER leaving me with just a little too much work to do. I had 40 options after that, whereas the likes of CRANE (17) and TRAIN (9) were significantly more fortunate. As it happens, TRAIN was my choice of second word, and unsurprisingly it helped massively – I now had a green R and yellow I and N, and a mere five words to choose from.
All five of those made their way on to my shortlist: DRINK, BRINK, GRIND, BRING and BRINY. However, I knew that the latter had been a past Wordle answer, not too long ago on game #1064, so ruled that out right away.
This was one of those nice situations where I could now guarantee a 4/6 by playing any of the four words, so there was no particular reason to choose any one of them. I went with DRINK, on a whim, and while it wasn’t correct it gave me the yellow D that meant the answer had to be GRIND.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2024.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
