Wordle hints (game #1466) – clue #1 – Vowels
How many vowels does today’s Wordle have?
• Wordle today has vowels in three places*.
* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).
Wordle hints (game #1466) – clue #2 – first letter
What letter does today’s Wordle begin with?
• The first letter in today’s Wordle answer is E.
We don’t get many Wordle answers that start with an E – though it’s the most common letter in the game, it’s only the 14th most likely to begin a solution.
Wordle hints (game #1466) – clue #3 – repeated letters
Does today’s Wordle have any repeated letters?
• There are repeated letters in today’s Wordle.
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.
Wordle hints (game #1466) – clue #4 – ending letter
What letter does today’s Wordle end with?
• The last letter in today’s Wordle is E.
E is the most common letter to end a Wordle answer by far. That’s one of the reasons why many of the best start words, including SLATE, CRANE, CRATE and STARE, all end with one.
Wordle hints (game #1466) – clue #5 – last chance

Today’s Wordle answer (game #1466) is… ELITE.
I have never been, and will never be, a member of the ELITE. The rich and famous, the landed gentry, the multimillionaires (or even just millionaires. Or even, frankly, someone who has actual money, as opposed to debts). The top athletes and musicians and authors and entertainers. The bestest of the bestest.
And you know what? I am absolutely fine with that, it all looks like a lot of stress and effort.
Instead, I am content to focus on nothing more than trying to be an elite-level Wordle player.
I have no idea whether I would qualify as that; my 1,268-strong streak might have put me in that rarefied air, but I can’t prove it due to the NYT’s continued inability to cope with people playing in different time zones. Maybe I can enter some kind of Wordle tournament someday and make a claim for greatness.
Until then, I shall have to be satisfied with days like today, where I scored a three on a game that has an average of 4.1.
ELITE has a repeated E, which is not particularly uncommon compared to some repeated letters but which is still a complication. It’s arguably the only troublesome factor here, though, so I’m a little surprised people are struggling to this extent.
My success stemmed from my randomly chosen start word, DENSE, which confirmed that double-E format at the first attempt. That left only 22 options, and when I followed up with the delightful word TWERP, I cut that to three.
All three were easy to identify: ELITE, ELATE and EMOTE. Choosing between them was harder, though. There was no point in playing EMOTE, because it might have left a 50/50, but ELITE and ELATE would both guarantee a four at worst, and I couldn’t recall either having appeared before.
In the end I went for ELITE without any justification for doing so, and got lucky.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #1465)
In a different time zone where it’s still Monday? Don’t worry – I can give you some clues for Wordle #1465, too.
- Wordle yesterday had a vowel in one place.
* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).
- The first letter in yesterday’s Wordle answer was O.
Vowels are generally less common than you’d expect at the start of a word, and O is only the 17th most likely letter to begin a Wordle answer.
- There were repeated letters in yesterday’s Wordle.
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.
- The last letter in yesterday’s Wordle was Y.
Y is the second most common ending letter in the game, behind only E. In total, 364 Wordle answers end with a Y.

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #1465) was… ODDLY.
Every now and then, my random word generator will serve up a first guess containing a repeated letter. This is something I could have guarded against (I created the generator myself), but I left repeats in because sometimes they can be very helpful. After all, about a third of Wordles contain a repeat.
The downside is that the chance of my repeated letter being the same as the one that’s in the answer is fairly low (and beyond my mathematical abilities to calculate). Hence BLESS, with its two Ss, was less than helpful in trying to solve a puzzle that ended up having two Ds.
It did give me an L, at least, but still left 200-plus solutions and a tough task ahead of me.
Playing TRAIL next was a bit of a no-brainer, as T, R, A and I were four of the five most common letters not yet played; the other was O, which didn’t pair as well with those characters as ‘I’ did. It also placed the L at the end, where it regularly turns up.
Unfortunately, luck was not with me. As I would soon find out, the O I’d omitted would have been much more useful than the ‘I’, and the L turned out to be in the fourth position, rather than at the end.
That led to a very frustrating second guess: a skill score of 94, according to WordleBot, but a luck score of only 8, no extra letters, and still 36 possible solutions.
With no real idea of what kind of word format I was looking for, I again played the percentages on my third guess, going with COULD; this used the final two vowels, the 10th most common letter (C) and the 13th (D). The only more common letters I hadn’t played yet were N and Y.
This isn’t my usual approach, in that I’d generally be working out what kind of words might be the answer, and would tailor my guess to that format. But here, I was still very much in the dark, so stuck to the common-letter approach. It’s a bit of a brute-force method, but it usually works.
And, eventually, it did so: the L turned green and the O and D both went yellow. After a little time spent looking at the board I established that ODDLY seemed to be the only remaining answer (it was) and scored my four.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2025.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Games app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
12. The NYT has added in some of its own words, that weren’t in that list of 2,309 solutions. More will undoubtedly come over the next few years.
