Key art for The Exorcist: Believer

One of the most anticipated horror movies of 2023 is about to make its Peacock debut. And while The Exorcist: Believer didn’t exactly set critics on fire, here’s your chance to check out David Gordon Green’s would-be franchise reviver and trilogy-starter ahead of the annual slew of “best/worst” film lists.

The Exorcist: Believer joins Peacock’s surprisingly strong horror library (check out some recommendations here) on December 1. It’s just the latest from fright-centric producers Blumhouse to be available on the service; other titles include current blockbuster hit Five Nights at Freddy’s, as well as The Black Phone, The Hunt, 2020’s The Invisible Man, and seasons one and two of The Purge series.

The Exorcist: Believer picks up 50 years after the original film without factoring in its sequels, much like Green’s approach to his Halloween revival trilogy. (The timing for this Peacock debut almost perfectly aligns with the original film’s release date, which was December 26, 1973.) Believer stars Leslie Odom Jr. as a father whose young daughter—along with her best friend—shows signs of being possessed after briefly getting lost in the wilderness; Ellen Burstyn reprises her role as Chris MacNeil, who famously underwent a similar ordeal with her own daughter in the 1973 film.
