SAVE UP TO $400: Amazon has Samsung’s The Frame 4K smart TV on sale for up to 13% off as of Jan. 13, with the smallest 32-inch model starting at just $547.99.

New year, new “The Frame.”

Initially released in 2017, Samsung announced some major upgrades to its framed 4K smart TV that doubles as wall art last week at CES 2021. The new QLED display will be much thinner than its predecessor so that it hugs the wall like a traditional picture frame, while its border will be available in five different colors and two styles: Modern or Beveled.

Notably, the revamped 43-inch version of The Frame will also be able to rotate — a feature previously exclusive to the 32-inch one — so it can display portrait photos and paintings as well as landscape-oriented ones, depending on the layout of your gallery wall. (The TikTok-watching potential is there, too, as tech reporter Brenda Stolyar pointed out.)

The Frame’s update doesn’t have a release date or price yet, but you can still buy the current version that came out in early 2020. In fact, you should buy the current version that came out in early 2020: At the time of writing, select sizes of it are on sale for up to 13% off on Amazon, which works out to a savings of up to $402. (That’s not quite as good a deal as its Black Friday pricing, but we’re not mad about it.)

If you do go with last year’s model, know that it comes equipped with Quantum Dot Technology capable of delivering over a billion hues with 100% color volume, and dual LED backlighting that adjusts the display’s tones for lifelike contrasts — a really pretty picture, in simpler terms.

Built-in sensors tell The Frame whether you’re actually watching TV or leaving the room, which prompts its Art Mode feature to switch on. You can upload your own photos to the display via smartphone app or USB flash drive, or take your pick from the Samsung Art Store collection — it contains thousands of museum-worthy pieces by both emerging and established artists. (And here’s the cherry on top: You’ll get a free three-month subscription to it when you buy The Frame’s 2020 model.)
