Spend $10, save $10 on Prime Day: From June 7 to June 20, spending $10 at select small businesses at Amazon gets you a $10 credit to spend later.

At its core, Prime Day is a shopping holiday invented by Amazon specifically to get customers to hurl money at Amazon — er, more than usual. The event attracts a hearty portion of some 200 million Amazon Prime members (including people who sign up just to take advantage of the two-day frenzy) who spent $3.5 billion in 2020.

As antithetical as it may sound, the behemoth of an online shopping platform is one of the best places for small businesses to get their name out there. (Not everyone’s most-used phone app is Etsy — weird, we know.) A promotion in the two weeks leading up to Prime Day 2020 drove over $900 million in sales for third-party small businesses selling their items on Amazon.

Amazon is going even harder for small businesses ahead of Prime Day 2021. Over 300,000 small vendors (double the number from 2020) are participating in a “spend $10, get $10” pre-Prime Day promotion: Between June 7 and June 20, spending $10 on select small businesses on Amazon earns you a $10 credit valid during the duration of Prime Day (June 21 and 22). Instructions on how to claim the credit will be sent via email.

Qualifying vendors can be found on Amazon’s Support Small landing page. Peruse items by category, from home and kitchen, to jewelry, to pet supplies, or narrow your search to Black-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, and more.

The coolest part — aside from the uniqueness of the products themselves — are the featured artist slots under each category. Here, we get to know a few of the minds behind the making, learning how these artists got started and why they’re excited about sharing their creations with you.
