This is a timelapse of an outburst by Eta Carinae, a star system about 7,500 light-years from Earth. The video is a compilation of frames by the Chandra X-ray Observatory taken in 1999, 2003, 2009, 2014, and 2020, but new findings about the X-rays only were revealed this year.
