Remember when you were a kid, and it seemed like everyone else always had the newest, shiniest toy — and somehow yours was the busted budget version? That’s what happens to Barney (Shazam scene-stealer Jack Dylan Grazer) in Ron’s Gone Wrong, the first theatrical feature from UK-based studio Locksmith Animation.
The latest gadget in Barney’s reality is the B*Bot, a sort of overgrown iPhone-tamagotchi hybrid that also has wheels for riding and scooting around. It’s shiny, it’s adorable, and it’s everywhere — but Barney’s new device, Ron (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) is a little bit… off. He makes dial-up modem noises, his eyes keep sliding off his “face”, and he keeps forgetting Barney’s name. It’s sort of like if Baymax from Big Hero 6 was a two-foot-tall egg in a hand-knit beanie, and a bit drunk all the time.
Also, the tech product design here is impeccable — the B*Bot ad that opens this trailer nails the sleek, utopian vibe of modern device marketing.
Ron’s Gone Wrong is slated for release on Oct. 21 this year.
