The first teaser trailer for the upcoming stealth adventure game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum gets right to the point in sending Gollum into the desolate land of Mordor.

From Daedalic Entertainment, a studio with a long list of smaller adventure, tactical, and puzzle games under its belt, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum puts the decrepit, ring-poisoned old hobbit in the center of the story. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz in 2019, Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann said that the game would fall under the action adventure genre, have some focus on the creature’s two personalities, and fill in some of the gaps that are present in Gollum’s story.

This teaser doesn’t give us anything to go on gameplay-wise, but there are some references that stick out strongly here. It begins in a cave, which is possibly the same cave where Gollum first met Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit and lost the One Ring. There are some drawings on the cave walls, one of which is likely a reference to the moment when Gollum (then known as Smeagol) killed his brother when they found the One Ring, and another depicting a run-in with a giant spider, probably Shelob. And then of course there’s the sweeping landscape of Mordor, which Gollum spent some time in on multiple occasions, complete with an active Mount Doom and Sauron’s tower,  Barad-dûr.

There is no release date announced yet for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
