This year, we all collectively spent more time on social media than we needed. While many of us mindlessly scrolled, just looking for something to distract ourselves from the world around us, there were a bunch of Twitter users who were actively dedicated to their craft: making fancams.

What is a fancam, you ask? If you’re on Twitter, you’ve seen them: video montages of celebrities, popular TV show characters, famous vloggers…really anyone (or sometimes, anything) you can think of, all set to trendy music. Most often, they’re found in the replies to viral tweets, and almost never have anything to do with that tweet’s subject matter.

With all this extra time on our hands, Twitter fancams really went off the deep end this year. So behold: the coolest, funniest, wackiest fancams we could find, below.

1. The Fancam That Fought Racism

K-pop stans are notorious for dropping their fancams under every tweet possible. But earlier this year, they joined together for the good of the world by spamming white supremacy hashtags like the one above with their fancams. Keep up the good fight, BTS Army and Blinks.

2. The Cutest Fancam Yet

Look at that adorable Baby Yoda face. Doesn’t it make your 2020 a little bit better?

3. The True Heroes’ Fancam

Think about how much you needed the United States Postal Service this year. Now think about how much it deserves this fancam and every fancam ever made.

4. The Shadiest Fancam

A Kanye fan dropped this one under Taylor Swift’s latest secret album announcement, just in case you forgot they had beef.

5. The Fancam That Almost Convinced Me Of Adam Driver’s Attractiveness

I just don’t find him hot, OK? But this fancam did make me rethink that for a second.

6. The Fancam You Didn’t Know You Needed

When I think of Jack Black, I only think of his voice in Kung Fu Panda. I have no other comments at this time.

7. The Fancam That Restored My Faith In Voting Systems

While the U.S. was busy fretting over election results and voter fraud, Brazil took the opportunity to show everyone that their voting machines are superior.

8. The Fancam That Might Haunt Your Dreams

When “hactivist” group Anonymous reemerged during the George Floyd protests, this fancam also emerged. And it scares me for so many different reasons. Mainly: why????

9. The Best Redhead Appreciation Fancam

Yes, this DID remind me of my childhood crush on Ron Weasley. Yes, you SHOULD go reread Harry Potter for the thousandth time.

10. The Fancam That Made Me Feel Something For Cartoon Characters

Azula from Avatar is a baddie. That’s all. (Please note the original tweet.)

11. The Fancam That Might Save 2020

Of course there’s a vaccine fancam. Of course it’s the last one on this list. Here’s to 2021!
