Below, you’ll find a selection of Wordle hints to guide you in the right direction. You don’t have to use them all, but there are five in total should you need them, covering vowels, starting letter, ending letter and more. And if you don’t have time to play at all, you can see the answer, too.

Today’s Wordle answer (game #722)
Today’s Wordle answer (game #722) is… GUARD.
Here’s another fairly easy Wordle for you, and other one in which some of the best Wordle starting words made a huge difference. If you’re not using one yet, you’re making the game much more difficult for yourself. That may be intentional – in which case fine – but if it’s not, make a change from tomorrow!
ADIEU, the most popular of all start words (though not one of the best) left just eight possible solutions today, while my favorite (STARE) left 17. The likes of CRANE (27), TRACE (24) and CRATE (also 24) were not too far behind.
There’s nothing hugely complicated about the word even if your starter didn’t come up trumps. No repeated letters today, no uncommon letters and in general the letters used are where you’d expect them. For instance, G – which is far more likely to be at the start of a Wordle answer (115 examples) than it is elsewhere (only another 195 across the other four positions). All of that adds up to an average score of 3.9, according to WordleBot, which is the same as yesterday’s game (see below).
Even so, I’m pleased with how my second guess went today. With A and R both green, I could have had a shot at the answer, but I came up with 10 possibles myself (out of the 17 that WordleBot later told me had been an option) and that seemed too many to try for a 2/6.
On my list were CHARM, CHARD, DIARY, QUARK, OVARY, ONARY, BOARD, GUARD, HOARD and HOARY. So, a lot of Ds, a lot of Os, a couple of Us, a few Hs and a G. Playing DOUGH enabled me to include all of those letters and my plan worked tremendously: it gave me the three remaining letters. Now it was just a simple case of arranging them all, and it turned out GUARD was the only way I could do that. I played that next and scored a WordleBot-matching 3/6.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #721)

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #721)
Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #721) was… AGAIN.
Yesterday (see below) we had a Wordle answer with a repeated ‘A’ that proved quite tricky to solve. Today, we have a Wordle answer with a repeated ‘A’ that is nowhere near as bad.
Good news, eh?
WordleBot says people are solving it in an average of 3.9 guesses, compared to 4.4 yesterday, and that feels about right – if you take 4.0 as the standard Wordle score, then AGAIN probably does belong on the slightly easier side of that divide.
Four of the five letters are common, though G is less so; it only ranks 17th out of 26 overall, and it’s much more likely to be found at the start of a Wordle answer than it is in position #2 as it is here.
A repeated ‘A’, meanwhile, occurs 69 times on Wordle’s 2,309 original solutions list, meaning you’d only expect to see one every 33 games or so. The fact that we’ve had two in a row is therefore somewhat surprising.
But that’s it as far as complicating factors go. AGAIN is otherwise a straightforward Wordle to solve, and one for which some of the best Wordle starting words will have made the task easier still. For instance, CRANE and SLANT left just 12 possible solutions, while ADIEU was at 13.
My own STARE was not quite so helpful: 43 remaining for that one. But no matter, because my second word was very fortunate and reduced that tally to a single answer in one go.
My choice was CLING, an answer I’ve had success with before in this scenario. You’ll have noticed that I didn’t even attempt to get the answer here, leaving out the E – but that’s because I knew I’d be very unlikely to solve it on the second guess. Narrowing it down further then scoring a 3/6 was my ambition (not something that would be possible if I played on Hard mode, admittedly).
So I went with CLING and it gave me three more letters: I, N and G. Coupled with the A there was really only way in which they could be arranged, and that was AGAIN, Simple!

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
