We don’t get many Wordle answers that start with an E – though it’s the most common letter in the game, it’s only the 14th most likely to begin a solution.

• There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle.
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

H is a regular visitor to the final spot in a Wordle word. It occurs 137 times at the end of a Wordle answer, making it the sixth most common letter there.

Today’s Wordle answer (game #752)
Today’s Wordle answer (game #752) is… EARTH.
This is a welcome return to the more straightforward side of Wordle following a tough one in the form of FOLLY and a couple of ER answers (one of which was very difficult) in ENTER and COWER.
EARTH is nowhere near as difficult as they were; WordleBot says it only has an average score of 3.4, compared to 4.7 yesterday (see below) and 5.0 for Saturday’s COWER.
My task was made easier by my choice of one of the best Wordle starting words – and that same benefit will have been found by many today. SLATE left just two possible solutions, while for CARTE, CRATE and CARET, it was just one. My STARE left 20, but compared to the multitude I had to work through in the past three games, that’s fine.
I had four yellows on that first guess, so the key was arranging them in an order that gave me at least one green (and ideally more). I went with LATER, because it was a possible answer, covered off the chance of yet another ER answer, and also added an L into the mix.
LATER was wrong and the L wasn’t in there either, but it did give me a green A. What’s more, it narrowed down my options to just one. Bingo!
That might seem surprising, given only one letter was green at this stage, but it only took a bit of thought before that became apparent. That’s because both E and R could now only go in position #1 or #3. If R went in position #1, that left RAE–, which is not a combination that works. Whereas if the E went in position #1 that left EAR–, which very much does work.
In short, I only had either EART- or EAR-T to solve, which meant it had to be EARTH, which meant I scored a 3/6.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #751)

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #751)
Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #751) was… FOLLY.
The first thing to say here is that no, I didn’t play this one well.
The second thing is that in my defence, it is a difficult Wordle. In fact, WordleBot gives it an average score of 4.7, which makes it the joint seventh hardest (along with BORAX) so far in 2023.
Even so, I should have done a lot better. Things didn’t get off to a good start, with STARE – my choice of the best Wordle starting words – leaving me with exactly zero letters and still 319 possible solutions. It got a little better when CLOUD gave me a yellow L and O, but that still left 21 options.
So I began hunting. First I played JOWLY, because I figured the answer probably ended LY and this also allowed me to include a couple of the least common consonants, in case they featured among the answer (it could have been LOWLY or JOLLY, for instance). But that was misguided thinking; as WordleBot told me afterwards, I’d have been better going in with FOLLY or HOLLY or something at that stage to confirm the format.
Still, JOWLY did give me some more info – three green letters – and reduced the choices to six. But five of those six differed only by the first letter (MOLLY, HOLLY, FOLLY, GOLLY and LOLLY), with the outlier being NOBLY. With only three guesses left, I couldn’t blindly guess -OLLY words without risking a failure.
So instead I played LAUGH; this would cover off LOLLY, GOLLY and HOLLY. That worked, but I still had three left. What I should have done now is to have played FOLLY; it was by the far the most likely answer of the three remaining, and even if it was wrong it would have confirmed what the answer really was; I might have scored a 5/6, and couldn’t do worse than a 6/6. But I wasn’t thinking straight by this stage and instead guessed FUNNY. This confirmed the F at the start and gave me FOLLY next go, but really it was all a bit of a mess.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
