Today’s Wordle answer (game #775)
Today’s Wordle answer (game #775) is… PARTY.
According to WordleBot, today’s puzzle is the easiest in more than a week. Easier than ETHOS (which I scored a 2/6 on), easier than BATHE (ditto), easier than STYLE (which had an average score of only 3.4). People are, apparently, completing PARTY in a mere 3.2 guesses – making it the joint-second-easiest this year.
Yet somehow, I contrived to score just a 4/6 on it. Bah!
I’m actually a little baffled as to why it was quite so easy, unless lots of people just got very lucky. And that may well be the case; WordleBot says the average luck score today was 66/99, compared to 47 yesterday and 58 on Tuesday, for instance. Or maybe I just played badly.
PARTY does have some of the hallmarks of an easyish game: five common letters, particularly common starting and ending letters (P is fifth, Y is second) and no repeats. Plus, a couple of the best Wordle starting words made a really big dent in the number of possible answers – CRATE left just four and CARTE only two. But it seemed to me at least that there were lots of ways to play this one, and I struggled to find any green letters until quite late on.
My first guess, STARE, fared reasonably well: three yellow letters. But my second, TRIAL, merely moved those three around. WordleBot tends to prefer repeating at least one letter when it has multiple yellows, and instead preferred TAROT for the second guess.
I took the same approach for #3, playing RATTY – and finally made progress. That confirmed the A, T and Y, and left me with only two options: WARTY and PARTY. While it could have been the former, the latter always seemed like a much more likely Wordle answer, so I played that and scored a slightly frustrating 4/6.

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #774) was… BEGET.
Finally! After more than a week of ‘easy’ Wordles – and I say ‘easy’, because no Wordle is that for everyone – here’s a strangely welcome difficult one.
You may not be saying that, of course, because with its average score of 4.5, plenty of people will have scored 4s, 5s or 6s today. Some will even have failed to solve it and will have lost their streak. If that’s you, I sympathize.
There’s no shame in failing today, though (there’s never any shame in failing), because BEGET has two complications. One is the repeated E – not uncommon, as repeated letters go, but still a lot less likely than getting a single E.
The other is that it’s not exactly an obvious word. Well, unless you happen to have traveled to 2023 in a time machine from about the year 12 BC. I’m sure people do use it in speech today, and there’s nothing wrong with its inclusion here, but I imagine it will catch some people out simply because they won’t think of. I didn’t, for quite a long time.
How helpful were the best Wordle starting words today? Not very, generally. SLATE left 114 possible solutions, TRACE left 86, SLANT 62 and CRATE/CARTE both 102. My choice, STARE, was at 90.
On the plus side – for me at least – my start was identical to the one I had for yesterday’s game (see below), namely a yellow T and yellow E. From that, I knew that WordleBot’s top pick for second guess was TENET – so I played that.
Now, you might think that’s cheating, or at the very least it’s making life very easy for myself. Well, it’s definitely not cheating, but I do feel like something of a fraud. However, what’s the point in doing anything if you can’t learn from it? I learned yesterday that TENET was a good choice in this scenario, and I applied that learning today. Though it only adds one new letter into the mix, the fact that it doubles up on the T and the E gave me a vastly increased chance of locating one or both of those letters. As it happens, I located both – and also found that E appeared twice.
The upshot of all that was that I now had only one possible solution left. It took me an age to find it, though; I worked through every option I could think of, putting together my remaining letters to make QEFET and VEHET and MEKET and other nonsense words before finally stumbling upon BEGET and realizing that it almost certainly had to be the answer. It was – and as a nice bonus I beat WordleBot’s 4/6 with my 3/6.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
