Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

Today’s Wordle answer (game #799)
Today’s Wordle answer (game #799) is… PEACE.
It’s been a while since we’ve had a vowel-heavy answer, but that’s what we get with today’s PEACE. Perhaps as a consequence of that, this game has another fairly low average score, of 3.8. However, it is also a game with a repeated letter – not uncommon, but always making things slightly harder – so this may still have caused people some problems.
It caused me a couple, and I ended up with a 4/6 – worse than the average, which is annoying. Maybe I was too cautious in my play, but I simply couldn’t narrow down the options quickly enough.
Things started off OK; my opening guess was STARE, one of the best Wordle starting words, and that gave me two green letters: –A-E. Apparently, that meant I had now reduced the answers list to 27, which was decent if not as good as CRANE (6), CRATE (6), CARTE (6), LANCE (6), TRACE (4) or PLATE (2).
Unfortunately, my second guess was not the best. I wanted to narrow down those options by guessing a word that couldn’t be the answer – by now a fairly standard play for me. My choice for that was BLIND, but WordleBot only awarded me 88/99 for skill, and said CLUNG would have been better.
With hindsight, it would – BLIND drew a blank and still left me with 10 possible solutions, whereas CLUNG would have cut the options to just a pair.
I drew up a list of words at this stage, and came up with QUAKE, AWAKE, HEAVE, WEAVE, PEACE, AGAPE, AMAZE and APACE; I missed CHAFE and AGAVE from WordleBot’s list. I thought some were probably past Wordle answers, but couldn’t recall which, so a 3/6 was always a long shot here. But rather than narrow things down further, I decided to go for it anyway; guessing WEAVE would point the way to several other answers even if wrong, and this wasn’t a panic stations situation yet.
WEAVE did what I’d hoped – it confirmed the extra E and left me with just one more option, PEACE, which I played next for my 4/6.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #798)

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #798)
Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #798) was… CHOIR.
We’re back on easy street now, seemingly. Today’s Wordle has an average score of just 3.4, making it the most approachable since WRATH two weeks ago (3.3). Why so simple? Well, C is the second most common starting letter in the game, and CH is the fifth most common starting combination. R is the fourth most common ending letter. And as vowels, O and I are just generally common.
The results for the best Wordle starting words were not quite as spectacular as with yesterday’s game (see below), but CRANE (12) and CRATE (13) both cut things down a fair bit, while CRONE was – for the second game in a row – the best option, leaving just two answers.
STARE, my pick, was not so useful: a single yellow R left me 123 solutions to sift through. Not that I did that, of course – I’d been here before many times, and knew to play CRONY as my second guess. And aren’t I glad I did so? It worked pretty well on Thursday, with WORDY, cutting my answers list to just six, but it performed even better today – and then some.
CRONY gave me a green C, a green O and effectively a green R, because it now had to go at the end of the word. So, I simply had to solve C-O-R.
It didn’t take me long to establish what the answer was, because there aren’t many letters that can go between a C and an O; it’s not like you can put a P or a D there, for instance. No, it had to be CHO-R or CLO-R, or maybe a vowel – COO-R, CIO-R or CUO-R. None of the last three made any sense, but CHO-R served up CHOIR and I duly took my third 3/6 in a row (and 11th in 13).

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
