After a year without any development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 2021 is poised to deliver and the first one up is WandaVision.
The Disney+ series follows Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch in the comics, and Paul Bettany’s the Vision, who you might remember is extremely dead after Avengers: Infinity War. The upcoming series finds the two of them living an idyllic small town life. Seemingly.
In truth, there’s a whole lot we don’t know about WandaVision. It’s doing some funky stuff with classic television genres. Trailers have hinted at forays into deep TV history, with scenes and moments riffing on the likes of I Love Lucy, The Brady Bunch, and Married… with Children.
Whatever the series may be set to deliver, it’ll be happening soon. Reviews haven’t started appearing yet, but critics who have seen the series’ first three episodes — Disney+ will release new ones weekly, just like it does with The Mandalorian — are already bringing good news.
With less than a week to go before the series premieres with two episodes to kick things off, it sure sounds like you can start getting excited.
My biggest takeaway, it seems like the cast had a blast filming the series. Lots of joy on screen.
I can’t say much but I’m excited to see how #Wanda and her powers play into the plot and what the arrival of #MonicaRambeau means. pic.twitter.com/q8UeVhARwF

I applaud #WandaVision for truly sticking to its guns with the retro sitcom format. My worst fear was that it would cop out for something more safe and mislead with the trailers… but nope. This gets silly and gleeful in the right ways. pic.twitter.com/GyxsgWTAlB

Major props to Olsen & Bettany who totally shift gears into the sitcom world and SHINE. Marvel really made a bold choice here- while leaving the door open to the MULTI ways it can play out- oh the ‘magic show’ scene was just that 🎩- so rewatchable too!

I’ve seen #WandaVision‘s first few eps and wanted to share some thoughts. You had reason to suspect that the show’s going to be good (it is,) but the reasons why are kind of surprising. Not usually into late-night drops, but the season opens in a way that’s gonna evoke Nick@Nite pic.twitter.com/4Y5bfWwfbj

I watched the first three episodes of #WandaVision and safe to say, I’m obsessed. It’s charming, funnier than I expected, and the sinister undertone is just delicious. I’m dying to see where this goes!!
Also, Paul Bettany is an absolute gas and is having far too much fun 🤖 pic.twitter.com/TAe6Hxkcoc

Okay #Wandavision. As a long time Wanda/Scarlet Witch fan, this series is everything I could hope for and more. It’s one of the most fun things Marvel has produced. Also Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s chemistry is electric. I can’t wait to talk about it ALL pic.twitter.com/Ux9cWD09Tg

Though, I do wonder what people will make of this who don’t have a working knowledge of, say, Bewitched. Like, the b-plot of one episode is “Vision accidentally swallows gum.”

#WandaVision is truly unlike anything the MCU has put out before. I can’t emphasize that enough.
It is a blast to watch. It is so committed to the sitcom structure of story telling that it feels like a bold risk – but it pays off and builds a mystery.
It is awesome. pic.twitter.com/NbGBsGLfmc

I’ve watched THREE episodes of #WandaVision and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Truly unlike anything Marvel Studios has done — it’s light, funny & fully committed to its retro sitcom inspirations, but it also carefully sprinkles in enough mystery & intrigue to keep you guessing pic.twitter.com/8dqegsg5By
