At the recent “Let Loose” event, Apple unveiled two new iPad Air models: an 11-inch version and a 13-inch version. This is the first time that two iPad Air models have been launched simultaneously, and they’re both packed with big upgrades.

The new iPad Air models still feature a Liquid Retina display. However, the 12MP front-facing ultrawide camera with Center Stage has been relocated to the landscape edge, making it perfect for video calls. The camera provides high-resolution photos and detailed 4K video, with support for 240-fps slo-mo.

Dual microphones are also included alongside the camera. Both iPad Air models come with landscape speakers with Spatial Audio. The 13-inch model provides double the bass compared to the 11-inch model.

The 11-inch and 13-inch models of the iPad Air now come equipped with the Apple M2 chip, which boasts a 16-core Neural Engine. This chip is also present in the 2022 iPad Pro models and certain Macs. According to Apple, the M2 chip makes the iPad Air 50% faster than its predecessor, which had the M1 chip. Additionally, the M2 is three times faster than the iPad Air models that featured the A14 Bionic chip.

From an accessories standpoint, the iPad Air supports Apple Pencil Hover for greater precision and works with Magic Keyboard. Like previous models, it includes Touch ID.

According to Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing: “We’re so excited to introduce the redesigned 11-inch and all-new 13-inch iPad Air, offering two sizes for the first time. With its combination of a brilliant Liquid Retina display, the phenomenal performance of the M2 chip, incredible AI capabilities, and its colorful, portable design with support for new accessories, iPad Air is more powerful and versatile than ever.”

The 2024 iPad Air is available in Starlight, Space Gray, and new versions of Purple and Blue. It’s encased in 100% recycled aluminum and has storage options of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. The 11-inch version starts at $599, while the entry-level 13-inch version starts at $799. Both versions are already available for preorder and will arrive next week.
