After over a year of delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, Marvel’s Black Widow is finally on the cusp of hitting cinema screens. To mark the impending release, Rachel Weisz — who plays Melina Vostokoff in the film — appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to share a few more details about her character.
“She’s been trained as a Black Widow spy,” Weisz explains in the video above, after Kimmel plays an amusing clip from the film of her dining with David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Scarlett Johansson’s characters — the clip was first revealed by Marvel at D23 all the way back in 2019. “She’s a highly skilled spy and scientist. She runs a kind of pig farm — that’s where, in fact, the family met me, at my scientific lab where I also keep pigs which I experiment on.”
If you’re not across the character from reading Marvel comics, Weisz explains Melina is also highly skilled in combat, fluent in 25 languages, and in this film, wildly attracted to David Harbour’s character, the Red Guardian.
“We are very, very attracted to each other,” says Weisz. “We haven’t seen each other for many years when we sit down and have that meal and, er, he’s definitely gained some weight since I last saw him, but Melina, she will just take him any which way.
“It’s hot, it’s a very hot connection.”
Black Widow arrives in theaters and on Disney+ (via Premier Access) on July 9.
