Saturday Night Live took the occasion of newly relaxed masking guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control to bring out Kate McKinnon’s Anthony Fauci for a little press conference. For this one, “Fauci” brought along a group of CDC doctors who also have an acting background, staging a series of scenes meant to offer real-world examples of how the new masking guidelines operate in practice.
It’s a nice idea, except every actor on the stage deeply misunderstood the purpose of the exercise. Instead of offering best practices for continued mask-wearing, the assembled players let their extremely relatable experiences from the past year guide their performances.
